What’s the point of therapy?
You’re independent. You handle problems on your own. That’s how you’ve survived and thrived in life.
That’s why this is so frustrating.
The exhaustion from lack of sleep, frustration with pain day in and day out, and confusion about why you seem so stuck are taking a toll. You can still get through a day at work or school and get by at home, but you just feel “off.”
The usual approaches don’t seem to be working. The exercise routine isn’t what it used to be, family and friends don’t seem to have answers, doctors are scratching their heads, and binging Netflix just puts problems on hold.
So you think, “Maybe I should try therapy. It couldn’t hurt, right?”
Well, sometimes it does. When you sit and talk about your problems – with no solutions, no path forward – you can stay stuck, and problems mount even more.
That’s why I take a different approach.
Therapy with me isn’t your typical “talk therapy.” I partner with you to find concrete solutions to accomplish your goals and develop strategies to manage any future problems. I do short-term therapy, so you won’t need to come in for months and years. Address the problem, and move on.
This is your opportunity to get back in the driver’s seat.
Through individual therapy, we will make a treatment plan specifically designed for you but rooted in the strongest research.
I use two types of therapy – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
They help clarify the kind of life you want to have; the type of person you want to be; and ways to manage the thought patterns, emotions, and physical sensations that get in the way of that. With these therapies, we focus on helping you achieve your goals and develop new approaches to manage future problems. You become “your own therapist.” You’ll once again be as independent as you’ve always been.
