HeadWhat led me to this work…

I started undergraduate with the idea of going to medical school, but that changed shortly after I started shadowing doctors.

A surgeon I worked with told me a knee replacement he was going to do would only last a few years because of the patient’s weight. When I asked who would help with weight loss to improve surgical outcomes, he said, “Our psychologists do that.” Right then, I decided that’s what I wanted to do. I became fascinated with helping people take control of their lives and health.

Some of my education and experience…

I got my bachelor’s in psychology and neuropsychology from Hope College (Michigan) and went on to do a master’s and a doctorate in clinical psychology at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)

After getting my doctorate, I provided neuropsychological assessment and treatment with clients suffering from concussions, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, neurological disorders, and brain tumors with the University of Michigan’s Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology team.

I’ve also had pain management experience and done various clinical work in neuropsychology with the Salt Lake City Veterans Healthcare Administration.

I enjoy being very active. I play tennis, golf, ski, and hike.

I’ll do anything to spend time in the mountains. I just wish there were a few more lakes to boat on!

HeadWhat led me to this work…

I found my interest in psychology through a high school course that led to shadowing a close family friend who is a neuropsychologist.

Following those experiences, I decided to pursue psychology as my major when entering my undergraduate studies. I have always had a desire to assist individuals trying to maximize their potential and well-being.

As a psychologist, I feel we have the unique opportunity to collaborate with individuals from all walks of life and meet them where they are at as move towards their goals.

Some of my education and experience…

I got my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. Following graduation, I went on to complete a master’s and doctorate degree at Nova
Southeastern University (Florida). I completed my predoctoral internship at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in the rehabilitation psychology track providing psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessments to Veterans with several chronic illnesses and injuries. I followed that up with a post-doctoral fellowship at the University
of Utah Health, Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation working both with inpatient and outpatient populations alongside the rehabilitation psychology team.

When I’m not working…

I enjoy spending time with my partner, family, and friends. I also love cooking, traveling, skiing, hiking, and reading.

HeadWhat led me to this work…

I have been working as a neuropsychology technician for nearly a decade and began noticing an increasing number of individual with mental health concerns seeking cognitive evaluations.

However, there were not a lot of helpful spaces available for these individuals to receive treatment. This observation inspired me to return to school, with the goal of bridging the gap between mental health and neurological care.

Some of my education and experience…

I got my bachelor’s in psychology from Central College (Iowa) and went on to do a master’s in clinical neuropsychology at Bangor University in Bangor, Wales, UK. After working in the field for many years administering cognitive assessments in a neurology setting, I returned to complete a master’s in clinical mental health counseling at the University of Utah – graduating May 2025.

My therapy training has included work in a non-profit community setting working with underserved populations, providing a 12-week CBT-based treatment program for those diagnosed with PNES, working with clients diagnosed with neurologic disorders that are in a pre-surgical pipeline for DBS/FUS procedures, and working more broadly with those diagnosed with functional neurological disorders.
